Albert Bichot : Vosne-Romanée 1er cru "Les Malconsorts" Dom. du Clos Frantin 2017
Type: Red Wine
Vintage: 2017
Grapes: 100% Pinot Noir
Origin: Burgundy , France
Description: The Vosne-Romanée appellation covers more than 150 hectares in the Côte de Nuits, and is shared between the Flagey-Échezeaux and Vosne-Romanée communes. Out of all the Vosne-Romanée climats, 14 have Premier Cru classification. The vines are planted on clay marl and calcareous soil. The Vosne-Romanée appellation exclusively produces Pinot Noir single-varietal red wines. At tasting, these wines reveal ripe fruit, red and black fruit and spicy aromas in their youth. As they age, we can notice slight scents of alcoholic red fruit, candied fruit and more animal notes. They are balanced on the palette and require ageing for a few years to be more supple and structured.
Tasting notes: "There is enough wood to notice but not to intrude on the exceptionally spicy and overtly floral-suffused nose of dark currant and plum. There is outstanding intensity, muscle and power to the broad-shouldered flavors that brim with both minerality and dry extract on the sappy, mouth coating, robust and youthfully austere finish that goes on and on. This is excellent and worth checking out." - Allen Meadows
"The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Les Malconsorts 1er Cru was harvested on different days, as Bichot owns sites on varied soil profiles within the vineyard. Initially closed, it opens nicely to offer dark cherries, bergamot and tea leaf notes. The palate is very harmonious with good backbone, grippy tart red fruit and a mineral-driven, quite sturdy finish. Excellent." - Neal Martin
Pairing: Excellent pairing with mature cheeses.
