94+ Points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"Bottled in July, it is unfair to compare the 2007 to the 2008, although the difference in ripeness is clear. A slightly more herbaceous, earthier bouquet, sharp blackberry, a touch of soy, an attractive floral element...violets. As it did in barrel, this Pontet-Canet nods towards Margaux. Good definition though. The palate is well balanced, slightly grainy tannins on the entry, very good acidity and backbone. This is confirming the promise that it showed in barrel and the finish is developing a lovely blackcurrant and mulberry finish. Exceptional for the vintage. Drink 2011-2025." (Neal Martin, RobertParker.com, October 2009)

95 Points James Suckling

"Crushed blackberry, currant and light licorice. Full-bodied, with lovely ripe tannins and a long, fruity finish. Balanced and refined. A beauty." (James Suckling, 2008).

Type: Red Wine

Grapes: 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot.

Main Characteristics: Black Cherry, Cedar, Cassis, Blueberry, Violets.

Tasting Notes: A very deep cherry-coloured robe. Intense aromas of black and red fruit with beautiful cedar notes that one finds in young vintages of Chateau Pontet-Canet. The attack on the palate is full, leaving great length with finesse, while conserving the tannic strength that characterizes this vintage. An impressive long finish with a remarkable freshness and a lingering velvety sensation. A very beautiful wine that shows the greatness of Chateau Pontet-Canet's terroir.

Origin: Pauillac, Bordeaux, France.

Vineyards: Pontet-Canet's vines are situated within the commune of Pauillac, where the vineyard spans 81 hectares. The soul of Pontet-Canet lies in the Plateau, an outcrop of Garonne gravel over a bedrock of limestone. The poor and well-drained soil meets all the requirements of the demanding Cabernet Sauvignon grape, the trademark of great Pauillac wines. Cabernet Franc, planted in the centre of the outcrop, brings noble tannins and refinement. Some Merlot vines are planted on the gravelly clay soil which surrounds the Plateau. Three parcels on the edge of the outcrop are planted with Petit Verdot, a grape variety which produces incredible wines, bringing spicy notes.

Alcohol content: 13%

Pairing: Classic meat dishes with veal, pork, beef or lamb. Also Asian dishes including rich fish courses like tuna, mushrooms and pasta.
